The Bibliotheca Bodmeriana contains over 900 works extending over five centuries which provide a context to the successive versions of Goethe’s Faust which he composed from the 1770’s right up to his death in 1832.

Such a remarkable cluster of documents sheds light on the kind of collector Martin Bodmer was. It also demonstrates a density and coherence that invite historical exploration and digital experimentation, of which the Bodmer Lab has become a leader.
